The Marathon refinery, located in Carson, a short distance from Los Angeles, exploded and caught fire on Wednesday. Fortunately no casualties have been regretted and there were no injuries. This is the largest refinery on the west coast, and the authorities set out to investigate not only the causes of the explosion but also if any toxic substance had been released into the air.
